Grants & Financial Assistance

The Herren Project Recovery Housing Scholarship - Rhode Island

The Herren Project Recovery Housing Scholarship is designed to help eligible individuals transition from addiction treatment into a structured sober living environment without having to take on the full cost of rent immediately.

For approved applicants, Herren Project can provide up to seven weeks of financial assistance toward rent at a vetted sober living home. Rhode Island is currently one of the states where Herren Project recovery housing scholarships are available, although funding depends on availability at the time of application.

What Does the Scholarship Cover?

The scholarship gradually reduces over seven weeks:

  • Weeks 1–4: 100% of eligible sober living rent
  • Week 5: 75% of rent
  • Week 6: 50% of rent
  • Week 7: 25% of rent
  • After Week 7: The resident becomes responsible for the full housing cost

Approved recipients also receive access to a Herren Project recovery coach for six months to provide additional support as they continue building stability and independence in recovery.

Who Can Apply?

Candidates generally must be participating in an addiction treatment program and be referred by a case manager or counselor, or already be a Herren Project client. Applicants and their referring professional are required to provide information explaining why financial assistance is needed and how the scholarship will support the applicant’s recovery goals.

Using Herren Project Funding at New Life Sober Living

Individuals interested in the New Life Sober Living Providence house may apply for Herren Project assistance while pursuing placement with us.

Approval for Herren Project funding is determined entirely by Herren Project and is based on eligibility and available funding. Admission to New Life Sober Living is also subject to our normal screening process and current bed availability. Because Herren Project covers a decreasing percentage of rent during the final three weeks, residents should be prepared to assume a larger portion of their housing cost as the scholarship progresses.

How to Get Started

If you are currently in treatment, speak with your case manager or counselor about submitting a Herren Project Recovery Housing Scholarship application. Herren Project reviews applications regularly, but funding is not guaranteed and availability can vary by state and month.
